The infrastructure programmes I lead at EUIPO today, the years at Elastic before that, and the cross‑border groundwork earlier still.

  • Moving an Elasticsearch estate to the cloud

    Led the architecture of a large‑scale migration of more than 40 on‑premises Elasticsearch clusters to Elastic Cloud. One of the most strategic infrastructure initiatives, directly supporting the organization’s cloud strategy.

  • Governing self-service Kafka on Confluent Cloud

    Defined the governance model — permissions, naming conventions, limits — and supervised the IaC framework enabling development providers to create and use Kafka topics securely and consistently on Confluent Cloud, as part of a phased retirement of the legacy Kafka infrastructure.

    Designing and shipping semantic and hybrid search — relevance tuning, hybrid retrieval architectures, and context engineering with Jina AI embedding models on top of Elasticsearch, plus the infrastructure to run it all in production.

    As an assigned engineer, I sized and architected Elastic Stack deployments across a rotating portfolio of customers — from early‑stage startups to large enterprises and government agencies, on‑premises or in the cloud — where almost nothing about the right architecture stayed the same twice.

    Information Technology Architect

    EUIPO — European Union Intellectual Property Office

    Designing and evolving the search, data streaming and cloud infrastructure that underpins some of the EU’s most critical intellectual property systems.

    • Led the architecture of the migration of 40+ on‑premises Elasticsearch clusters to Elastic Cloud.
    • Defined the governance model and supervised the IaC framework for secure, standardised Kafka topic provisioning on Confluent Cloud, enabling external development providers, as part of retiring EUIPO’s legacy Kafka infrastructure.
    • Bringing semantic and hybrid search into production across EUIPO's trademark and case-law search platforms.

    Senior Engineer

    Elastic — the company behind the Elastic Stack

    Assigned engineer supporting customer deployments of Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana and Elastic Cloud, from infrastructure design through day‑to‑day operational issues.

    • Designed Elastic Stack infrastructure end‑to‑end for assigned customers — machine sizing, hardware, node roles, and on‑premises or cloud topology — plus data modelling and mapping guidance for correct, efficient use of Elasticsearch.
    • Resolved performance, upgrade and security issues across customer deployments; filed bug reports that led to fixes and improvements in Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana.
    • Delivered Elastic Stack training and courses as an instructor, mainly in London, and onboarded and mentored new engineers joining the team.
    • Worked cloud‑first across AWS‑hosted Elastic infrastructure — networking, security policies, protocols and storage — reflecting Elastic’s cloud‑native product and delivery model.
